The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has announced a recall of approximately 22,672 pounds of Johnsonville cheddar bratwurst that were distributed across ten states. This action was prompted by reports from consumers who discovered hard plastic pieces within the product.
Johnsonville, a company headquartered in Momence, Illinois, produced the affected bratwurst on February 5, 2025. The specific items being recalled are 19-ounce packages of Johnsonville Bacon Cheddar Bratwurst, which contain five sausages and bear the package code “B9FOD.” Each package is marked with the establishment number “Est. 1647,” as noted by FSIS.
The bratwurst products were shipped to various retail locations in Georgia, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, Tennessee, Virginia, and Wisconsin.

The contamination issue was identified after the company reported to FSIS that it had received two customer complaints regarding hard plastic found in the bratwurst. At this stage, there are no confirmed cases of injury linked to the consumption of these products; however, FSIS advises anyone with health concerns to consult a healthcare provider.
