Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, sidestepped questions from the media on Friday regarding a New York Times report that accused him of drug use during former President Donald Trump’s campaign last year, as well as legal issues involving the mothers of his children.
During a press event at the White House, Musk interrupted Finance Newso News reporter Peter Doocy as he tried to inquire about the allegations raised in the Times article, effectively preventing him from completing his question.
The Times’s report detailed Musk’s purported use of the potent anesthetic ketamine, suggesting that it exceeded occasional use, alongside alleged consumption of Ecstasy and psychedelic mushrooms.
In response to a question about the article, Musk asked, “Is this the New York Times?” while sitting next to Trump in the Oval Office. He went on to question the publication’s credibility, referencing its Pulitzer Prize win for reporting on the Trump campaign’s alleged ties to Russia.
“I think the judge just ruled against The New York Times for their lies about the Russia-gate hoax, and that they might have to give back that prize,” Musk remarked. “Let’s move on.”
NBC News has not verified the claims made in the New York Times article concerning Musk, who retains the title of the world’s richest individual. His portfolio includes notable ventures such as SpaceX, a contractor for the U.S. government.
Musk has played a significant role in supporting Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign, reportedly contributing over $250 million to assist the Republican candidate in securing a second non-consecutive term.
Attempts by NBC to obtain comments from the White House and Musk have so far gone unanswered. However, the Times later amended its report to include a statement from a White House spokesperson, who acknowledged Musk’s contributions in reducing government expenses.
The spokesman declined to address the matter of Musk’s alleged drug use, as cited in the Times piece.
