The Mayor of Newark, Ras Baraka, has initiated a lawsuit against New Jersey’s top prosecutor, Alina Habba, following his arrest last month at an immigration detention facility within the city.
In the lawsuit, Baraka claims that Habba engaged in false arrest, malicious prosecution, and defamation against him as a Democratic official.
Habba, who previously served as President Donald Trump’s personal attorney, has been appointed as the interim U.S. attorney for New Jersey.
This federal civil litigation was filed in U.S. District Court in New Jersey, just weeks after Habba announced that her office would withdraw its case against Baraka “for the sake of moving forward.”
