On Tuesday, Elon Musk voiced his sharp criticism of a sweeping tax-and-spending bill championed by President Donald Trump, describing it as a “disgusting abomination” that threatens to escalate the federal budget deficits.

Through a post on his social media platform X, Musk expressed his discontent: “I’m sorry, but I just can’t stand it anymore.”

“This massive, outrageous, pork-filled Congressional spending bill is a disgusting abomination,” the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX elaborated.

Musk reserved particular ire for lawmakers who supported the bill, stating, “Shame on those who voted for it: you know you did wrong. You know it.”

Previously, Musk had taken a leadership role in the Trump administration’s efforts to curtail government spending until his tenure as a temporary “special government employee” ended last week. At a farewell event in the Oval Office, both Musk and Trump exchanged warm messages.

In a subsequent post, Musk warned that the legislation “will massively increase the already gigantic budget deficit to $2.5 trillion (!!!) and burden American citizens with crushingly unsustainable debt.”

The White House quickly dismissed Musk’s remarks, despite his history of supporting Trump, which includes a hefty contribution of over $250 million to Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign.

“Look, the president already knows where Elon Musk stood on this bill,” Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said, addressing inquiries regarding the post.

“It doesn’t change the President’s opinion. This is one big, beautiful bill, and he’s sticking to it,” she asserted.

Leavitt further reinforced the administration’s stance, labeling claims that the bill adds to the deficit as “blatantly wrong.” She accused the Congressional Budget Office, which recently projected a $3.8 trillion increase in the deficit over the next decade due to the budget package, of bias against Republicans.

In a surprising twist, some Republican lawmakers have sided with Musk. Rep. Thomas Massie from Kentucky, a noted fiscal conservative and one of the few Republicans to oppose the House version of the bill, responded to Musk by stating, “He’s right.”

Musk acknowledged Massie’s comment with a simple, “Simple math.”

Sen. Mike Lee of Utah also aligned with Musk’s position, condemning the bill’s effects on America’s middle class.

“Congress has hollowed out America’s middle class through reckless deficit spending and the inflation it causes,” Lee wrote in response to Musk’s warning about the impending deficit disaster.

“The Uniparty propels this vicious cycle, and must be stopped in its tracks,” he added.

Musk had previously voiced his concerns about the bill in a CBS News interview aired Sunday, asserting that the legislative package undermines DOGE.

Additionally, Musk has a history of opposing Trump’s tariffs and has clashed with other government officials, including making headlines for his fiery exchanges with White House trade advisor Peter Navarro and reportedly having disputes with Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.

Earlier on Tuesday, Trump himself reacted sharply to criticism from Sen. Rand Paul regarding the bill’s provision to raise the debt ceiling by trillions of dollars, claiming Paul did not grasp that the bill was designed to foster “tremendous GROWTH.”
