Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, a Democrat from New York, was hospitalized for dehydration on Wednesday, according to a statement from his office.
A spokesman revealed that the 74-year-old senator felt lightheaded while exercising at the Senate gym earlier in the day.
After seeking medical attention as a precaution, Schumer was treated for dehydration and has since returned to his duties at the Capitol. He took the opportunity to remind the public to stay hydrated and avoid excessive heat, the spokesperson added.
Schumer’s health scare coincided with his absence from a scheduled press conference, where he was expected to discuss Senate Democrats’ resistance to a significant Republican reconciliation bill backed by President Donald Trump.
In a post on X, Schumer confirmed that he spoke with Zohran Mamdani, the frontrunner in the New York City mayoral race, who is likely to secure the Democratic nomination following a strong performance in Tuesday night’s ranked-choice voting.
As of now, a representative for Schumer has not provided further details regarding the senator’s health incident to Finance Newso.
