Elon Musk has announced the formation of a new political party called the “America Party,” aiming to restore what he describes as “freedom” to American citizens. The declaration was made on Saturday, following a poll he shared on social media, in which he claimed that a significant majority—two to one—supports the idea of a new political party.

Musk expressed his determination on X, stating, “By a factor of 2 to 1, you want a new political party and you shall have it!” His comments followed a previous tweet where he sought input from his followers regarding the potential establishment of the America Party.

As the wealthiest individual worldwide, Musk hinted that the party’s objectives might include targeting “just 2 or 3 Senate seats and 8 to 10 House districts.” He elaborated, stating that even a small representation could have a considerable impact on legislative decisions, thus reflecting the genuine will of the people.

While he did not specify where the America Party would be officially registered, there appears to be no existing registration with the Federal Election Commission at this time. Musk noted that the party would operate independently and engage in legislative discussions with both major political parties.

In the previous election cycle, Musk emerged as the largest contributor, donating over $280 million in support of candidates—primarily Donald Trump while also extending support to other Republican figures. His potential involvement in upcoming congressional races in 2026 could significantly alter the dynamics of tight contests.

This recent development comes amid a public dispute between Musk and Trump. Once close allies during the early Trump administration, their relationship has soured, characterized by negative exchanges on social media, particularly related to Musk’s criticism of Trump’s expansive domestic policies.

Previously, Musk was instrumental in Trump’s initiatives aimed at federal government reductions, leading efforts for the contentious “Department of Government Efficiency” (DOGE). However, he stepped back from this role in May when his government employee term concluded.

Following the deterioration of his relationship with Trump, Musk has contemplated the establishment of a new political party, a consideration heightened by his ongoing objections to Trump’s latest domestic policy package passed the prior week. Musk voiced his concerns about what he perceives as reckless government spending, remarking, “It is obvious with the insane spending of this bill, which increases the debt ceiling by a record FIVE TRILLION DOLLARS that we live in a one-party country – the PORKY PIG PARTY!!”

He further emphasized the need for a new political party that genuinely prioritizes the interests of the populace.
