In a strong response to the recently imposed tariffs on Chinese imports, the Chinese foreign ministry declared on Wednesday that Beijing is prepared to implement “resolute and forceful” measures to safeguard its interests as the net total tariffs have reached 104%.

Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Lin Jian emphasized that the U.S. should adopt a posture of equality, respect, and mutual benefit if it genuinely seeks to resolve the escalating tensions through dialogue and negotiation.

Additionally, an official white paper released by the State Council Information Office on Thursday outlined that should the U.S. continue its economic and trade restrictions, China will “resolutely counter and fight the U.S. to the end,” as translated by Finance Newso.

The white paper criticized the U.S.’s use of tariffs as a tool of coercion, labeling it a “typical act of unilateralism, protectionism, and economic bullying.” Beijing contended that increasing tariffs would not resolve issues related to the U.S. trade surplus but rather lead to increased financial market volatility, heightened inflationary pressures, and harm to American industries.

Despite these challenges, the Chinese government expressed a willingness for the U.S. to “meet halfway” by canceling the unilateral trade barriers, reiterating its openness to enhancing dialogue, managing differences, and fostering collaboration between the nations.
