The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is calling on the Trump administration to promptly put in place a “tariff exclusion process” aimed at preventing a potential recession and protecting small businesses from “irreparable harm.”
In a letter obtained exclusively by Finance Newso, the prominent business lobbying organization appealed to top trade officials within the Trump administration to automatically remove tariffs on all small business importers, as well as on products that cannot be produced domestically or are otherwise unavailable in the United States.
“We are acutely aware that, even if negotiations may take only weeks or months, the repercussions for many small businesses could be severe and lasting,” Clark stated in her letter directed to Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, and U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer.
“We urge the administration to take swift action to protect America’s small businesses and avert a recession,” she added.
