The complaint refers to remarks made by DHS Special Agent Rana Saoud during the 2019 Offshore Alert Conference, an event focused on financial intelligence. During her presentation, Saoud allegedly disclosed that the department had pinpointed Bitcoin’s creator and indicated that the figure was part of a group of four individuals.
Murphy contends that Saoud indicated DHS personnel interviewed these individuals in California, where they provided details about Bitcoin’s functionality and its inception.
As of now, DHS has not confirmed or denied the veracity of these claims, nor has it provided any associated documentation.

Murphy is being represented by Brian Field, a former Assistant U.S. Attorney with substantial experience in FOIA litigation. He underscored that this case focuses on the pursuit of documented truths rather than conjecture.
“If the purported interview took place, there should be documentation regarding the nature of that meeting,” Murphy stated.
He further suggested that DHS Secretary Kristi Noem should proactively disclose the requested materials to promote transparency within the government.
“It’s entirely possible that the DHS agent mistook the situation and did not interview the genuine Satoshi,” Murphy remarked. “Should DHS resist providing this information, I am prepared to see the case through to uncover this mystery.”
A spokesperson for DHS has yet to provide a response to inquiries regarding the lawsuit.
