Netflix announced on Wednesday that its ad-supported subscription tier has attracted 94 million monthly active users, marking an increase of over 20 million since November.
The streaming giant, along with its competitors, is increasingly utilizing advertising as a means to enhance the profitability of its streaming services. Netflix unveiled its ad-supported offering in November 2022.
The monthly cost for Netflix’s ad-supported plan is set at $7.99, significantly lower than the $17.99 charged for its cheapest ad-free subscription.
“When comparing our performance to others in the industry, we note that viewer engagement starts strong and continues to rise,” said Amy Reinhard, Netflix’s president of advertising. “Notably, our audience pays as much attention to mid-roll advertisements as they do to the content they are viewing.”
Additionally, Netflix revealed that its lowest-priced tier appeals to more viewers aged 18 to 34 than any traditional broadcast or cable network in the United States.
