A significant recall has been initiated for over 44,000 Audi vehicles due to a software malfunction that affects the instrument panel display, rendering warning lights and the speedometer inoperative.
The United States National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has confirmed that a total of 44,387 vehicles are involved in this recall.
Volkswagen Group of America Inc. has specifically recalled certain models from 2021, including the SQ8, A6 Sedan, A7, A8, Q7, Q8, RS6 Avant, RS7, RSQ8, S6 Sedan, S7, S8, A6 Allroad, and SQ7, as a result of this software glitch.
A statement attached to the recall notes, “A vehicle’s virtual cockpit instrument cluster may shut down due to the detection of an internal fault. When this incident occurs, indicators for engine speed (RPM), vehicle speed, and gear/mode will not be displayed. Additionally, critical information such as time, date, and mileage will also be absent. The lack of warning signals, tell-tales, and gauges could elevate the risk of an accident.”
Audi drivers with 2021 models are advised to check the NHTSA website, where they can input their vehicle identification number to verify if their vehicle is impacted by the recall.
