President Donald Trump took to Truth Social on Monday to express his frustration with AT&T, the nation’s third-largest wireless carrier. In a series of posts, Trump urged the company to “get its act together.”
The president claimed he faced technical difficulties while attempting to hold a conference call with “faith leaders,” asserting that “AT&T is totally unable to make their equipment work properly.”
In his follow-up, Trump called on the leadership at AT&T to step in, stating that it “would be good” if the head of the company got involved. Currently, John Stankey is the chairman and CEO of AT&T.
The president also indicated that they might have to reschedule the call, mentioning that they would consider using another carrier in the future.
AT&T quickly responded via social media to the White House’s concerns.
The criticism from Trump resulted in a temporary dip in AT&T’s stock, although shares eventually recovered.
These sharp comments from Trump come just weeks after the Trump Organization announced a licensing deal for the name “Trump Mobile,” a new wireless phone service that includes a $499 smartphone offering.
According to the company’s website, the “T1” service will utilize infrastructure from all three major wireless networks. Details about the financial terms between the Trump Organization and the new wireless service remain undisclosed.
No immediate response was provided by the White House regarding the launch of Trump Mobile or the timing of Trump’s remarks concerning AT&T.
This latest development is part of an ongoing trend where the Trump Organization and the president’s family leverage his political brand for commercial opportunities while he remains in office.
