As President Donald Trump approaches the milestone of 100 days in office, new polling indicates a decline in his approval ratings, amid growing skepticism regarding his ambitious efforts to reshape the government.
Recent surveys released on Sunday reveal that a majority of Americans express disapproval of Trump’s presidential performance. His approval ratings, ranging from 39% to 45% across three different polls, mark the lowest figures for any newly elected president at this stage since World War II, according to CNN.
According to a Washington Post-ABC News-Ipsos poll, just 39% of U.S. adults approve of Trump’s presidency, while a CNN/SSRS poll recorded a 41% approval rate. An NBC News Stay Tuned Poll noted an approval rating of 45% among adults surveyed.
These figures signify a considerable shift from the higher favorability ratings Trump enjoyed upon returning to the White House in January.
Furthermore, confidence in Trump’s economic management among voters is waning, particularly concerning an issue that has been a focal point of his 2024 presidential campaign. The introduction of broad tariffs has heightened market instability.
The CNN/SSRS poll indicates that only 52% of U.S. adults are confident in Trump’s economic stewardship— a notable decline of 13 points since December.
The Washington Post-ABC News-Ipsos poll adds that approximately 72% of Americans believe there is a “very” or “somewhat” high likelihood that Trump’s economic strategies may trigger a recession in the near future.
The NBC News poll further highlights a significant discontent regarding Trump’s approach to trade and tariffs, with 61% of respondents expressing disapproval, alongside 60% disapproving of his handling of inflation and living costs.
Trump is also facing diminished confidence regarding his immigration policies, another central theme of his campaign. The CNN poll reveals that just 45% of Americans approve of his immigration management, a drop from 60% in December.
The divisions in approval ratings are stark along party lines, with most Republicans continuing to support Trump while the majority of Democrats express disapproval of his presidency.
Among independents, a critical voting segment, 58% disapprove of how Trump is managing the presidency, according to the Washington Post.
