U.S. law enforcement officials have successfully confiscated cryptocurrency linked to BidenCash, a notorious dark web marketplace accused of facilitating the sale of more than 15 million stolen credit cards and personal information.

This international effort led to the dismantling of approximately 145 domains associated with BidenCash, covering both dark web and traditional internet platforms.

According to a statement from the U.S. Attorney’s Office, BidenCash amassed over $17 million in revenue since its inception in 2022. The marketplace also marketed compromised credentials capable of unauthorized access to various computer systems.

Transaction Fees Implemented by BidenCash

The BidenCash domain now displays an official announcement indicating that U.S. law enforcement has seized it. The operation was spearheaded by the United States Secret Service (USSS) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

These federal agencies received assistance from the Dutch National Police (Politie), the nonprofit organization The Shadowserver Foundation, and Searchlight Cyber.

During its operation, administrators of BidenCash reportedly “charged a fee” for each transaction, enabling over 117,000 customers to purchase stolen credit card information. The Department of Justice highlighted that between October 2022 and February 2023, BidenCash offered 3.3 million individual stolen credit cards for free as a promotional strategy to attract users.

Researchers have previously cautioned about the risks associated with BidenCash, which first emerged by offering over 1 million stolen card numbers in October 2022.

Increased Crackdowns on Dark Web Activities

U.S. authorities have intensified their efforts against dark web criminal activities that involve cryptocurrency. In May, Europol collaborated with law enforcement agencies from ten countries to execute Operation RapTor, which effectively disrupted dark web fentanyl sales and resulted in hundreds of arrests connected to illicit cryptocurrency transactions.

Furthermore, the Department of Justice recently confiscated over $24 million in cryptocurrency from a Russian national implicated in the development and operation of the Qakbot malware.

The information regarding the seizure of 145 darknet domains and cryptocurrency related to BidenCash underscores the increasing resolve of law enforcement in combating cybercrime.
