U.S. Vice President JD Vance has indicated that Russia’s large-scale invasion of Ukraine is unlikely to reach a resolution “any time soon.”
In an interview with Finance Newso News, Vance stated that the administration under President Donald Trump is striving to find a “middle ground” to cease the conflict, which has persisted for more than three years.
“It’s not going anywhere … it’s not going to end any time soon,” Vance asserted.
His remarks follow the recent signing of a significant minerals trade agreement between the U.S. and Ukraine, which Vance described as indicative of progress being made by the White House.
Although Vance expressed a degree of “optimism” regarding potential advancements in peace negotiations, he tempered his expectations by noting that “it’s hard to say confident,” given that both Russia and Ukraine must ultimately take decisive action.
On Wednesday, after extensive negotiations, the U.S. and Ukraine finalized an economic partnership that grants the U.S. preferential access to certain natural resources from Ukraine.
U.S. Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent stated that the “historic” agreement is designed to enable mutual investments that will expedite Ukraine’s economic recovery and aid in efforts to “facilitate the end of this cruel and senseless war.”
In its view, Ukraine maintains that the partnership will yield beneficial outcomes for both nations involved.
Since assuming office in January, Trump has been advocating for a minerals partnership with Ukraine, suggesting that collaborative development of rare earths and other critical resources would serve as a form of compensation for American support provided during the ongoing conflict.
Before his election win last fall, Trump had claimed that he could resolve the war with Russia in just “one day.
Meanwhile, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio warned on Tuesday that the United States might reconsider its mediation role if tangible proposals from both Russia and Ukraine are not presented regarding the resolution of the conflict.
In response, the Kremlin reiterated its earlier statements indicating that Russian President Vladimir Putin is receptive to peace talks with Ukraine.
