The Zelle network has officially discontinued cash transfer services on its standalone application as of Tuesday, prompting users to redirect their transactions through the more than 2,200 banks and credit unions that currently support its services.
Upon attempting to log into the app, users are greeted with a notification indicating that it is “no longer available for sending and receiving money.”

The alert further informs users, “You will be able to log in until August 11, 2025, but not send or receive money. To continue using Zelle®, please enroll through one of the more than 2,200 mobile banking apps that offer Zelle®.”

This announcement aligns with the ongoing trend of financial institutions integrating Zelle’s services directly into their own platforms, which has contributed to a shift away from the standalone app. This insight was shared by the company in an October 31 press release.
As of Tuesday, only 2% of Zelle’s users continued to conduct cash transfers through the standalone app, with most accessing the platform via their chosen banking providers.

While the app will no longer facilitate financial transactions, it will remain operational as a resource for consumer education and a directory for banking apps that offer Zelle services.

Since its launch in 2017, Zelle rapidly ascended to become one of the leading payment-processing apps, boasting a user base exceeding 151 million.

The majority of users, who access Zelle through their online banking platforms, are expected to be unaffected by this transition, as noted in the company’s October press release.
